What OXO actually publishes
Five bullets and a dimension set. That is the entire specification for this product, and it is worth saying up front because the rest of this page is arithmetic on those numbers rather than a longer list of features that do not exist.
The figures: 26 by 26 by 4.5 inches, one pound, a mesh surface, legs offset from the corners, folds in half with the legs folding in. OXO's warranty field reads "Satisfaction guaranteed" with no stated term.

Every figure is the manufacturer’s own, read from its listing on 2026-09-02. Where a cell says not published, that specification is genuinely absent - we do not estimate one. How we work.
The offset legs are the product
Four of the five bullets describe things any mesh dryer does. The one that does not is this: "Legs are offset from corners so dryer can fit on countertops and washing machines."
That sounds like a detail and it is the whole design. A flat dryer with legs at the corners needs a surface bigger than itself, which in practice means a table or the floor. Legs set inboard let the frame overhang the edges of whatever it sits on, so a 26 inch square balances on a washer lid that is narrower than 26 inches.
That is the honest framing of who should buy it. It is not competing with a drying rack for capacity. It is competing for the square foot of countertop you were not using.
What 676 square inches holds
An adult crew-neck sweater laid flat with the sleeves in occupies roughly 24 by 20 inches, or about 480 square inches. So 676 square inches is one sweater with margin around it, or two or three small knitted items - a beanie, a pair of gloves, a child's jumper - laid out with gaps between them.
It is not two adult sweaters. Laying two on top of each other defeats the entire purpose, because the point of the mesh is airflow on both faces. If you regularly have more than one knitted item wet at the same time, the stackable tray set in the picks below is the correct answer and this rack is the wrong one.
Four and a half inches of clearance
This is the second number that earns its place. A sweater laid on a towel on the floor has no airflow underneath it at all, which roughly doubles the drying time and is the most common way an air-dried knit develops a musty smell before it finishes - the mechanism is set out on air-drying without the smell.
Raising the fabric four and a half inches lets room air move across the underside as well as the top. OXO does not publish a figure for how much faster that makes it, and neither will we, because nobody has measured it under stated conditions. What is not in dispute is the direction: two faces drying beats one.
Storage, and the fold
The legs fold in and the frame folds in half. Folded, the footprint is roughly 26 by 13 inches at whatever thickness the doubled mesh and frame make - OXO does not publish a folded depth, which is the one dimension a small-space buyer would want and the one number missing.
At one pound it stores anywhere a folded 26 by 13 panel fits: under a bed, behind a door, flat on top of a wardrobe. Weight is genuinely a non-issue, which is not true of the tiered racks on this site - the lightest of those is several times heavier.
What it does not tell you
- No load rating. Not published. A soaked wool sweater is roughly two to three pounds and the frame weighs one, so the margin is presumably generous - but that is a presumption and OXO has not stated a number.
- No folded depth. The listing says it folds in half and does not say to what thickness.
- No mesh gauge or material. "Mesh" is as specific as the listing gets. Nothing about the polymer, the aperture size or UV tolerance if you use it on a balcony.
- No frame material. Not stated either.
- No warranty term. "Satisfaction guaranteed" is published with no duration attached, which is more than most racks here offer and less than a stated number of years.
Who it is for
- Anyone who owns knitwear and no tumble dryer. Flat drying is not optional for wool and this is the cheapest correct way to do it. The wider field is on sweater drying racks.
- Anyone with counter space and no floor space. The offset legs exist for exactly this. It is the only product here that takes none of your floor.
- Anyone drying sports bras, compression leggings or anything with elastane. Wet weight stretches elastane at the straps and waistband the same way it stretches wool at the shoulders - see drying racks for activewear.
- Not anyone drying several knits at once. One garment at a time. Stackable trays solve that and this does not.
- Not anyone who needs it to be a drying rack. Four and a half square feet of mesh dries a sweater. It does not dry a load, and OXO does not suggest it does.
The verdict
A single-purpose object that does its single purpose correctly and publishes barely enough to prove it. The offset legs are a genuinely good piece of thinking - they turn a flat dryer from something that needs a table into something that lives on a washing machine - and 4.5 inches of clearance is the difference between a sweater drying in a day and a sweater smelling musty on a towel.
What it is not is a rack. One sweater, no load rating, no folded depth and no material stated. Buy it as the flat-drying accessory that sits alongside your main rack, which is how OXO has positioned it, and it is hard to fault for the money. Buy it expecting to dry a wash and it will disappoint you within one load.

Top pick · Drying knitwear flat
OXO Good Grips Mesh Sweater Dryer Rack
The standard flat dryer: a 26 inch mesh square on offset legs that sits on a countertop or a washer, and folds in half to store.
What the manufacturer publishes
- Open
- 26"D x 26"W x 4.5"H
- Folded
- Folds in half; legs fold in
- Drying line
- Not applicable - flat mesh surface
- Load capacity
- Not published
- Material
- Mesh

A wet sweater hung on a bar stretches from its own weight and stays stretched. Flat drying is the only fix, and it is not optional for wool.
The offset legs are the design detail that matters: they sit inboard of the corners, so the rack balances on a washer lid or a counter instead of only on a table.
Four and a half inches of clearance under the mesh is what lets air reach the underside. A sweater laid on a towel on the floor has no underside airflow at all and takes roughly twice as long.
Good
- Offset legs fit on a countertop or washer
- 4.5 inches of under-mesh airflow
- Folds in half flat
- Mesh does not print a bar mark into the knit
Not so good
- No published weight rating
- One garment at a time
Skip this if you have nowhere to put a 26 inch square. In a tight bathroom a stacking hanging mesh dryer uses vertical space instead.

Pick 2 · Several sweaters at once
STORAGE MANIAC Sweater Drying Rack, Stackable Mesh (4-Pack)
Four 28 inch mesh trays that stack into one column - the answer when a whole load of knitwear needs flat drying and you have one table.
What the manufacturer publishes
- Open
- 27.95"D x 27.95"W x 5.71"H each
- Folded
- Stacks; no tools to assemble
- Drying line
- Not applicable - flat mesh surface
- Load capacity
- 4 kg (approx 8.8 lb) per tray
- Material
- Plastic frame with mesh
Figures from Manufacturer listing on Amazon, retrieved 2026-09-02.
Stacking is the whole idea. Four trays occupy one tray's floor area and dry four sweaters, provided the room has some air movement to reach the middle of the stack.
8.8 lb per tray is published, which is more than any single sweater weighs wet, so the rating is not the constraint here.
Stacked trays are slower than a single tray. The inner layers see much less air, so plan on the middle of the stack taking noticeably longer.
Good
- Four trays for one tray's footprint
- Per-tray weight rating published
- No tools
- Slightly larger surface than the OXO
Not so good
- Stacked trays dry slower in the middle
- Plastic frame rather than the OXO's more rigid build
Skip this if you only ever dry one sweater. A single flat rack is cheaper and dries faster.

Pick 3 · Flat drying with zero floor space
Looca 3-Tier Folded Mesh Hanging Sweater Drying Rack
Three mesh shelves that hang off a shower rod and fold into an 11 inch disc - flat drying for an apartment with no spare surface.
What the manufacturer publishes
- Open
- 30.3"D x 24.5"W x 30.7"H (3 layers)
- Folded
- Folds to an 11" flat circle
- Drying line
- Not applicable - three flat mesh shelves
- Load capacity
- 10 lb
- Material
- Polyester mesh over a stainless steel frame
Figures from Manufacturer listing on Amazon, retrieved 2026-09-02.
It uses no floor at all. Hung from a shower rod or a closet rail, three flat shelves appear in space that was already dead.
Folding to an 11 inch disc is the storage answer a rigid flat rack cannot match - it goes in a drawer.
10 lb across three shelves is the published limit, and it is the right order of magnitude for knitwear. It is not a towel rack.
Good
- No floor footprint at all
- Folds to an 11 inch disc
- Locking hook resists being blown off a rail
- Three flat surfaces
Not so good
- 10 lb total across all three shelves
- Needs a rod or rail to hang from
- Mesh shelves sag under a heavy wet garment
Skip this if you are drying anything heavy. Ten pounds is two wet sweaters, and the middle shelf is the slowest place in the apartment to dry anything.

Common questions
How big is the OXO Good Grips Mesh Sweater Dryer?
A published 26 by 26 by 4.5 inches, weighing one pound. That is 676 square inches - 4.69 square feet - of mesh drying surface, with 4.5 inches of clearance underneath it for airflow.
Can the OXO sweater dryer sit on a washing machine?
Yes, and that is the point of its design. OXO sets the legs inboard of the corners so the frame can overhang the edges of whatever it stands on, which means a 26 inch square balances on a washer lid or a countertop narrower than itself. It is the only drying product on this site that uses no floor space.
How many sweaters fit on the OXO mesh dryer?
One adult sweater. Laid flat with the sleeves in, an adult crew-neck takes roughly 480 of the 676 available square inches. Stacking a second on top defeats the purpose, because the mesh exists to get air to the underside. For several knits at once, stackable trays are the right product.
Does the OXO sweater dryer have a weight limit?
Not a published one. A soaked wool sweater is roughly two to three pounds against a frame that weighs one, so the margin is presumably comfortable - but OXO states no figure and we will not invent one.
How small does the OXO mesh dryer fold?
The legs fold in and the frame folds in half, giving a folded footprint of roughly 26 by 13 inches. OXO does not publish a folded thickness, which is the one dimension a small-space buyer would most want.
Why does a sweater need to be dried flat?
Wet wool has almost no structural memory. Hung over a bar, the weight of the water pulls the fibers down and the garment dries in that stretched shape permanently. Flat support removes the pull, and a raised mesh surface adds airflow on the underside so the garment does not stay damp long enough to smell.
