The best drying racks for cloth diapers

Every general drying rack roundup ranks on total linear feet, because for ordinary laundry that is the number that decides whether a load fits. Cloth diaper laundry breaks that assumption. A wash is not eight shirts and two towels - it is thirty or forty small, identical, absorbent items plus a handful of large covers, run every second or third day, forever.

Thirty inserts laid over a bar overlap. Overlapping wet fabric is the single slowest thing you can do on a drying rack, and on a two-day cycle slow means you run out of diapers. So the specification that matters is not feet of bar. It is how many items the rack can hold separated.

Two different loads in one wash

How to judge a clip rack

1. Clip count. This is the capacity figure for this job. Forty clips does a full change in one pass; twenty-six does most of one; ten does a top-up.
2. Clip material. Diaper laundry is washed hot and often, and the rack lives in a damp room permanently. Stainless clips keep their spring; plastic ones go brittle and snap, usually within a year.

4. Whether it folds. These live out permanently for a couple of years and then never again. A rack that folds flat is one you can store rather than give away.
