What it is
A tall three-tier vertical airer on four wheels, with folding wings and adjustable shelves, from the Dutch housewares brand whose US catalog is otherwise mostly outdoor rotary lines - see Brabantia drying racks in the US for what else the brand actually lists here.
The design decision that defines it is verticality. A gullwing rack solves capacity by unfolding sideways across your floor; a tower solves it by stacking line above the same square feet. Both give you drying line. Only one of them lets you keep walking through the room.
The published specifications
| Product | Open | Folded | Drying line | Load | Material |

Every figure is the manufacturer’s own, read from its listing on 2026-09-02. Where a cell says not published, that specification is genuinely absent - we do not estimate one. How we work.
The floor-space arithmetic
| Rack | Published line | Open floor | Feet per sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brabantia HangOn Tower | 75.5 ft | 4.82 sq ft | 15.7 |
| Whitmor 3-tier, 27 ft | 27 ft | 2.98 sq ft | 9.1 |
| Household Essentials wooden | 27 ft | 3.13 sq ft | 8.6 |
| Honey-Can-Do 6-tier | 24 ft | 2.82 sq ft | 8.5 |
| Honey-Can-Do bamboo, 25 ft | 25 ft | 3.13 sq ft | 8.0 |
| Songmics gullwing | 59 ft | 9.81 sq ft | 6.0 |
| Leifheit Pegasus 200 | 65.6 ft | 10.95 sq ft | 6.0 |
| Honey-Can-Do gullwing | 46 ft | 9.41 sq ft | 4.9 |
Two things in that table are worth reading twice. The HangOn publishes more line than the Leifheit Pegasus 200 on less than half its floor. And every rack below the top four is a wide gullwing - the design that wins on total capacity and loses badly on the ratio, because it puts all of its line at knee height across your room.
Only eight of the racks this site covers publish both figures. That is the real story of this category: the ratio cannot be computed for most of it, because the manufacturer withholds one number or the other.
Two inches folded
Brabantia publishes 29.9 by 2 by 49.6 inches folded. Two inches is the smallest folded figure on this site, and the only folded figure published by any rolling rack here at all - every other rack with wheels declines to state one, which in a category sold on saving space is a telling silence.
Two inches means it stores in the gap beside a washing machine, behind a door, or in the void between a wardrobe and a wall. The transport locks that hold it closed while folded double as hooks when it is open, which is the kind of detail that suggests somebody used one before signing it off.
The guarantee and the certification
A five-year manufacturer guarantee is published. Across the whole of this site that is the longest warranty term stated for an unpowered rack, and most racks here publish no warranty at all - neither Joseph Joseph nor Leifheit states one on any US listing, at comparable or higher prices.
The listing also names a materials certification: Cradle to Cradle Certified at Silver level, 36% recycled content, 96% recyclable. This is the only rack on this site whose listing names a materials certification of any kind. Treat it as a sourcing claim rather than a performance one - it says nothing about how long the frame lasts - but it is a verifiable, third-party-audited claim in a category that mostly offers adjectives.
Where the listing goes quiet
No caster brake is claimed anywhere
Four wheels are stated. A brake, a lock or a swivel stop is not - not in the bullets, not in the specification table. This is also the tallest rack this site covers at 49.6 inches, and a tall loaded tower that cannot be parked is a real consideration on a hard floor with any slope in it.
The wheels are still the point of the product. Brabantia states you can move it loaded, which no folding rack allows, and moving a half-dry load into the sunniest room is the cheapest speed-up in indoor drying. Just do not expect it to stay exactly where you leave it.
76 feet in the title, 75.5 in the table
The product title says 76 ft (23 m). The specification table says 75.5. Twenty-three meters converts to 75.46 feet, so 75.5 is the accurate figure and 76 is the title rounding up. We publish 75.5 throughout, including in the ratio above - which means the real ratio is very slightly better than the title would let you calculate, not worse.
Outdoor use, limited and undefined
The listing adds a parenthesis: limited use outdoor, no rain and no corrosive environments. That is a sensible warning and it is not a specification - no IP rating, no coating grade, no stated material for the frame beyond stainless steel and plastic. If the rack is going on a balcony it needs bringing in, and the racks built to stay out are on outdoor drying racks.
Who it is for
- A small apartment where floor space is the binding constraint. This is the case it wins outright, and 15.7 feet per square foot is why - see drying racks for a small apartment for the rest of that field.
- A household with more than one load to dry at a time. Brabantia rates 75.5 feet at over two machine loads, which is more than any single rack here except an outdoor rotary line.
- Anyone who has to move a drying load. Four wheels and a frame rated to be moved loaded. No folding rack can do that.
- Anyone with nowhere to store a rack. Two inches is the whole argument.
- Not anyone on a sloping or hard floor who needs it to stay put. No brake is claimed.
- Not anyone drying a full set of sheets. A tower stacks line vertically in short runs; a 90 inch sheet wants span, which is covered on drying racks for sheets and bedding.
What we could not tell you
- Whether the casters lock. Nothing in the listing says either way.
- The per-tier load limit. A total of 55.1 lb is published; how it distributes across three tiers and the shelves is not.
- The frame material in detail. Stainless steel and plastic is as specific as the listing gets - no grade, no coating.
- An IP rating for the limited outdoor use. Not published.
- How the wheels wear. Casters on a loaded tower are the part that fails first and that takes years to judge. We have not owned it.
- Long-term stock. This is one of the thinner-stocked products this site covers, and the live price on this page is the honest check on whether it is available today.
The verdict
On the one measurement this site has applied across the whole category, this is the best rack we have documented - 15.7 feet of drying line per square foot of floor, against a previous best of 9.1. Add a published two-inch folded thickness, a five-year guarantee and a third-party materials certification, and the specification sheet is the most complete of any rack here.
The missing brake is a genuine irritation rather than a dealbreaker, and the height is a fact rather than a fault - going up is how the ratio happens. If your problem is that a rack takes over the room, this is the answer, and the arithmetic rather than the branding is the reason.

Two inches folded is the headline and it is the smallest published folded figure on this site. Every other rolling rack here declines to state one at all, which in a category sold on saving space is a telling omission.
75.5 feet of line is over two machine loads by Brabantia's own reckoning, on a footprint of about 4.8 square feet, because the tiers stack upward and each wing folds down on its own.
The wheels are where the listing goes quiet. Four of them, and no brake or lock is claimed anywhere - not in the bullets, not in the feature table. This is also the tallest rack here, so a loaded tower that cannot be parked is a real consideration on a hard floor.
Good
- Folds to a published 2 inches - the only rolling rack here that publishes any folded figure
- 75.5 linear feet, which Brabantia rates at over two machine loads
- Transport locks hold the frame closed and double as hooks when open
- Five-year manufacturer guarantee
Not so good
- No caster brake or lock is claimed anywhere in the listing
- Tall and narrow, so an unbalanced load matters more than on a wide rack
- The listing contradicts itself: 76 ft in the title against 75.5 ft in the specification table, and white in the title against black in the color field
Skip this if you need the rack to stay exactly where you put it. Nothing in this listing promises a brake, and it is the tallest thing on this page.

Pick 2 · The most drying line per square foot on this site
Whitmor 3-Tier Folding Drying Rack, 27 ft
27 published feet of line on just under three square feet of floor - 9.1 feet of line per square foot, second only to one tall rolling tower among the ratios we have cataloged.

- Folded
- Folds flat (depth not published)
- Drying line
- 27 linear feet
- Load capacity

Twenty-seven feet on 2.98 square feet works out at 9.1 feet of line per square foot of floor. For comparison, the Honey-Can-Do six-tier manages 8.5 and a wide gullwing manages about 4.9. On the one ratio this site has measured across the whole category, only the Brabantia HangOn Tower does better, at 15.7.
The top tier is a shelf rather than a set of bars, which is the detail that makes it more than a bar count. A knitted garment laid flat there dries without the shoulder stretch a bar causes, so one rack covers both jobs.
It costs meaningfully more than Whitmor's own 25-foot model, which is the unusual part: here the extra money buys both more line and a smaller footprint. In this category that combination normally goes the other way.
Good
- 27 published linear feet - the most of any Whitmor rack here
- 9.1 feet of line per square foot, the best ratio on this site
- Top shelf takes flat-dried knitwear
- Accordion frame drops open and locks
Not so good
- No published load rating
- Folded depth not published
- The most expensive Whitmor rack on this page
Skip this if you dry towels and bedding in bulk. Three tiers of short bars suit clothes; long heavy items want a wide gullwing.

Pick 3 · Studios and dorms
Honey-Can-Do 6-Tier Collapsible Steel Clothes Drying Rack, 24 ft

- Folds to 3 inches wide (full folded dimensions not published)
- Drying line
- 24 linear feet across 6 tiers

- 50 lb
- Material
- Coated steel

Under three square feet of floor, and 24 published feet of line: 8.5 feet of line per square foot. The Honey-Can-Do gullwing manages 4.9. That ratio is the whole argument for a tiered accordion rack in a small home.
Three inches folded is the number that matters in a rental, and it is published - which in this category is rare. Three inches fits behind an interior door or between a washer and a wall; a gullwing folded to eight or ten inches does not.
The trade-off is bar length. Six tiers of short bars suit shirts, underwear and socks; a bath towel hung at full width drapes over two tiers and slows both of them down.
Good
- 24 linear feet from under three square feet of floor
- Folds to a published 3 inches
- 50 lb rated capacity from a 4.8 lb frame
- Coated steel rods, which survive a damp room better than a bare finish
Not so good
- Short bars - full-size towels and sheets do not hang cleanly
- Six stacked tiers mean the lower rows dry slowest without air movement
- Only the folded width is published, not the full folded dimensions
Skip this if you are mostly drying towels and bedding. Long, heavy items want a wide gullwing, not a stack of short tiers.

Common questions
How much drying space does the Brabantia HangOn Tower have?
A published 75.5 linear feet - 23 meters. The product title rounds it to 76 ft; the specification table gives 75.5, and 23 m converts to 75.46 ft, so 75.5 is the accurate figure. Brabantia rates that at over two machine loads.
How much floor space does the HangOn Tower take?
Brabantia publishes 29.9 by 23.2 inches in use, which is 4.82 square feet. That works out at 15.7 feet of drying line per square foot of floor - the best ratio of any rack on this site, and 72% better than the previous leader at 9.1.
Do the wheels on the Brabantia HangOn lock?
The listing does not say. Four casters are stated and no brake, lock or swivel stop is claimed anywhere in the bullets or the specification table. On a sloping or hard floor, treat that as a real limitation - this is also the tallest rack this site covers.
How small does the HangOn Tower fold?
To a published two inches thick, at 29.9 by 49.6 inches. That is the smallest folded figure on this site and the only folded figure published by any rolling rack here - every other rack with wheels declines to state one.
Does the Brabantia HangOn Tower come with a guarantee?
Yes - a five-year manufacturer guarantee is published, which is the longest term stated for any unpowered rack on this site. For comparison, neither Joseph Joseph nor Leifheit publishes a warranty term on any US listing.
Can the HangOn Tower be used outdoors?
Only in a limited way, and Brabantia says so: no rain, no corrosive environments. No IP rating or coating grade is published to put a number on that, so treat it as an indoor rack that tolerates a dry balcony rather than an outdoor one.
