A dehumidifier is the one piece of drying gear that solves two problems at once: it speeds the load up, and it takes the water the load releases out of your room instead of leaving it on the walls. This is the unit this site has recommended for that job since launch, and this page is the full accounting of what it publishes.

A published wattage is why that arithmetic is possible at all. Three of the six heated racks this site covers publish only a surface temperature, and no cost can be computed for them. The wider comparison is on what a heated rack costs to run.
The 28-pint rating, and what it actually means
This matters for choosing a size. The temptation is to read pints-per-day as a throughput figure and buy the biggest number, and the useful version of the question - how much moisture a wet load actually releases, and what size unit that needs - is on what size dehumidifier.
The tank is the specification nobody checks
Gravity drainage needs the unit higher than the drain, which in practice means a floor drain, a shower tray or a sink with the dehumidifier on something. If none of that is available where you dry, the tank is workable - but plan on emptying it, not on setting it and forgetting it.
38 dB, and why it is on the spec sheet
Laundry dries overnight, and overnight in a small apartment means in a room somebody is sleeping in. A published 38 dB sleep mode with screen dimming is aimed squarely at that, and it is the figure that separates this from a basement unit that happens to also dry clothes.
As with every acoustic claim, 38 dB is the quiet mode rather than the working mode, and the listing does not publish a figure for the higher fan speeds. Continuous Drying - the mode the listing names for laundry - is not the sleep mode.

Every figure is the manufacturer’s own, read from its listing on 2026-09-02. Where a cell says not published, that specification is genuinely absent - we do not estimate one. How we work.
What it does not tell you
- Extraction at normal room conditions. Only the 95F/90% figure is published. Every dehumidifier in this category does the same thing, so it is not a mark against this one - but it does mean the headline number is not a daily expectation.
- Noise above sleep mode. 38 dB is published for the quiet setting only.
- Energy Star status. Not stated on this listing, unlike some competitors.
- How long the compressor lasts. A rotary compressor is a wearing part and that takes years to judge. We have not owned it.
Who should buy it
- Anyone drying laundry in a closed apartment in winter. This is the case it wins. It speeds the load and removes the water from the room rather than relocating it to the windows - see indoor humidity and condensation.
- Anyone drying overnight in a bedroom. The 38 dB sleep mode is the reason to pick this over a louder basement unit.
- Not a well-ventilated home in summer. An open window and a fan do the same job for nothing per hour - the comparison is on dehumidifier vs fan.
- Not anyone wanting a small cheap box. Mini thermoelectric units do not extract enough to dry laundry, which is covered on the drying gear you do not need.
The verdict
The most completely documented unit in a category that is usually sold on one inflated number. The pint rating is a laboratory ceiling and the tank is too small to run unattended - but both of those are knowable before you buy, because VEAGASO published the figures that make them knowable. At 2.9 cents an hour it is also the cheapest powered way to make indoor drying work in a damp room.

A dehumidifier does not blow air at your laundry; it removes the water your laundry has just put into the room. That is why it dries a closed room full of washing and a fan does not.
158 W is the number to compare against a heated rack. Running it for eight hours costs about 23 cents at the current US average rate - roughly what a 270 W heated rack costs for five.
38 dB is quiet enough to sleep through, which matters because the natural way to use one is overnight in a closed room with the rack.
This is a compressor unit, not a thermoelectric one, which is why it can pull 28 pints where the small desktop units manage a fraction of that.

Thermoelectric is a genuinely different technology, not a smaller compressor. It has no moving compressor, so it is near-silent, and it extracts far less water per hour.
The listing publishes a tank size, not a pints-per-day extraction rate. Those are not the same number and cannot be compared with the compressor units above.
85 W is real and low. For a small closed bathroom with one rack in it, this is enough. For a bedroom full of wet laundry it is not.

2100 cfm at 100 W is the specification that matters. Air movement is the single biggest lever on indoor drying time, and this delivers the most of it per watt of anything here.
One hundred watts for four hours is about 7 cents at the current US average rate. Running a fan alongside an unheated rack is close to the cheapest intervention available.
The three-hour timer means you can start it when you hang the load and not think about it, which is how it ends up actually getting used.
It is a floor blower, so it is directional. Aim it along the length of the rack, not at one garment.

Common questions
How much does the VEAGASO 28-pint dehumidifier cost to run?
About 2.9 cents an hour, from a published 158 W at the US average residential rate - roughly 23 cents for an eight-hour drying session. A tumble dryer load is about 46 cents, so a full night costs around half of one dryer cycle.
Does it really remove 28 pints a day?
Not in a normal room. The listing states that figure was tested at 95F and 90% relative humidity, which is a hot, nearly saturated environment. Extraction falls substantially in a cooler, drier room, so treat 28 pints as a laboratory ceiling.
Do you have to empty the tank constantly?
At the rated extraction, 28 pints is 3.5 gallons against a 0.44-gallon tank - roughly eight empties a day. Even at a quarter of that rate it is about twice a day, which is why the included drain hose is the sensible way to run it for laundry.
Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?
Its published 38 dB sleep mode is aimed at exactly that, along with screen dimming. Note that 38 dB is the quiet setting, not the Continuous Drying mode the listing recommends for laundry, and no figure is published for the higher fan speeds.
Is a dehumidifier better than a fan for drying clothes?
In a closed room in winter, yes - a fan moves the moisture around the room and a dehumidifier removes it. In a ventilated room in summer an open window and a fan cost nothing per hour and work fine. We compare the two directly on our dehumidifier vs fan page.
