What a spin dryer is for, in one paragraph
A spin dryer is a centrifuge with no heating element. It does not dry clothes - it extracts water mechanically and hands you laundry that is damp rather than wet, which your rack then finishes far faster. If you are not sure whether you want one at all, is a spin dryer worth it answers that question first; this page assumes you have decided and are choosing between models.
The Panda is the top pick on portable spin dryers and it is the only one of the three without a dedicated page here until now, which is the gap this review fills.
The published specifications
| Product | Open | Folded | Drying line | Load | Material |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Panda Portable Spin Dryer, 3200 RPM, 22 lb | 13.5"D x 13.5"W x 25.5"H | Not applicable | Not applicable | 22 lb | Stainless steel drum |
| The Laundry Alternative Ninja Spin Dryer, 3200 RPM | 14"D x 14"W x 24"H | Not applicable | Not applicable | not published | Triple-welded stainless steel drum |
| The Laundry Alternative Nina Soft Spin Dryer | 14"D x 14"W x 24"H | Not applicable | Not applicable | 17 lb | Ventless centrifugal spin dryer |
Every figure is the manufacturer’s own, read from its listing on 2026-09-02. Where a cell says not published, that specification is genuinely absent - we do not estimate one. How we work.
The capacity, and what it is worth per square foot
Panda publishes a 22 lb capacity. The Nina publishes 17 lb. The Ninja publishes no load weight at all - which is worth noticing, because it is otherwise the most specification-dense listing of the three. So on the one figure every buyer wants, only two of the three machines answer.
22 lb is more than a typical home washer's dry-load rating, which means the practical limit is your washer rather than the Panda. That is the right way round. A spin dryer you have to fill twice for one wash is a spin dryer that gets used once and then stops getting used.
Stainless inside and out - the one genuine build difference
All three machines publish a stainless steel drum. The Panda is the only one that also publishes a stainless steel outer case; the Ninja's listing describes a triple-welded stainless drum and says nothing about the shell, and the Nina says nothing about either.
This matters more than it sounds for the room this site is written about. A spin dryer sits in a bathroom, a kitchen corner or a utility cupboard and spends its life next to standing water and humid air, and a painted or plastic shell is where that shows first. It is also, honestly, the most expensive-sounding feature on the list and the least verifiable - stainless grade is not published, so a thin stainless skin and a thick one read identically on the page.
The warranty is the real trade
| Panda 3200 | Ninja 3200 | Nina Soft | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published spin speed | 3,200 rpm | 3,200 rpm | 1,800 rpm |
| Published capacity | 22 lb | Not published | 17 lb |
| Published spin time | Not published | 3 min to 90% dry | 5 min to 90% dry |
| Published unit weight | Not published | 19.7 lb | 15 lb |
| Drum | Stainless steel | Triple-welded stainless | Not published |
| Outer case | Stainless steel | Not published | Not published |
| Drain | Gravity, no plumbing | No vent or hookup | Ventless |
| Published warranty | 1 year | 3 years | 3 years |
One year against three is the clearest difference between these machines and it points the other way from the price: the Panda is the most expensive of the three and carries a third of the warranty term. A spin dryer is a motor, a bearing and a suspension spinning at 3,200 rpm - the exact class of appliance where years two and three are when you find out - so this is not a paperwork detail.
We are not going to tell you the Panda will fail sooner. Warranty length is a commercial decision as much as an engineering one, and neither brand publishes a failure rate. What we will say is that if you are choosing between a 22 lb drum and two extra years of cover, that is the actual choice in front of you, and nobody else states it plainly.
Where the listing goes quiet
No spin time
Both Laundry Alternative machines publish one: 3 minutes to 90% dry for the Ninja at 3,200 rpm, 5 minutes for the Nina at 1,800. Panda publishes 3,200 rpm and the phrase "in a flash" and no number. Since the Ninja spins at the same published speed, 3 minutes is a reasonable expectation - but it is an inference from a competitor's listing, not a figure Panda stands behind, and we are not going to print it as though it were.
No unit weight
The Ninja publishes 19.7 lb and the Nina 15 lb. Panda publishes dimensions and no weight. For a machine that may well need lifting onto a counter, moving to a sink to drain, or carrying into an RV - all uses Panda's own listing names - that is an odd thing to leave out.
No noise figure, from any of the three
The Ninja claims to be "16 times quieter than other spin dryers", which is a comparison without a unit and not a specification. Nobody in this category publishes a decibel rating. A 3,200 rpm centrifuge with an unbalanced load is loud; plan on running it when you are in the room, which you should be doing anyway.
Gravity drain: the detail that decides where it lives
Panda publishes a gravity-draining outlet that needs no sink or drain connection - you put a bucket under it and the extracted water runs out. All three machines are ventless and plug into a standard 110V outlet.
For a renter this is the whole appeal: no plumbing, no vent, no landlord conversation. It is also why a spin dryer fits the apartment-without-a-dryer problem that the rest of this site is about - see apartment laundry without a dryer for where it sits in the full kit.
Who it is for
- Best for whole machine loads. 22 lb is the largest published capacity here and more than most home washers hold dry, so you empty the washer into it once.
- Best for a damp room. Stainless drum and stainless outer case, published, which neither rival matches.
- Best for cutting indoor drying time hardest. Water removed by the centrifuge is water your rack never has to evaporate into the room, which also means less humidity - see drying clothes indoors, humidity and condensation.
- Best for an RV, a boat or a dorm. Gravity drain, no vent, standard outlet, 13.5 inches square.
- Not for knitwear and structured garments. 3,200 rpm is a hard spin. The Nina's 1,800 rpm is the gentler machine and costs less.
- Not for anyone who wants the longest cover. One year against three, at the highest price of the three.
What we could not tell you
- How long a spin takes. Not published by Panda at all.
- What it weighs. Not published, which complicates every portable use its own listing advertises.
- How loud it is. No figure from any manufacturer in this category.
- The stainless grade. "Stainless steel" is as specific as the listing gets, for drum and case alike.
- Residual moisture after a spin. Panda publishes "slightly damp"; the competitors publish 90% dry. These are not the same claim and neither is a measurement.
- How the suspension behaves with an unbalanced load. The Ninja names a suspension system, Panda names none, and neither publishes a vibration figure.
The verdict
If the job is putting an entire washer load through a centrifuge before it goes on the rack, the Panda is the machine that does it in one pass, and it is the only one here with a published stainless shell to go with the drum. 17.4 lb of capacity per square foot of counter is the best ratio in the category.
The one-year warranty is a real cost and we would rather say so than talk around it. Buy the Panda for the drum; buy the Ninja for the same 3,200 rpm, three years of cover and a published spin time; buy the Nina if what you own is knitwear. All three are below.

Top pick · Cutting drying time in half
Panda Portable Spin Dryer, 3200 RPM, 22 lb
A 3200 RPM centrifuge that leaves laundry damp rather than wet before it ever reaches a rack. No heat, and it changes the whole timeline.

- Load capacity
- 22 lb

A washing machine's spin cycle leaves clothes holding a lot of water. A dedicated spin dryer at 3200 RPM removes much more of it mechanically, and mechanical water removal is far cheaper than evaporating the same water with heat.
The practical effect is on the clock, not the bill: laundry that goes onto the rack already damp rather than wet finishes hours earlier.
22 lb capacity and a stainless drum, in a footprint about the size of a kitchen trash can.
The listing does not publish a wattage, so we do not publish a running cost for it. What we can say is that the spin runs for minutes, not hours.
Good
- 3200 RPM - the highest spin speed here
- 22 lb capacity
- Stainless drum
- Runs for minutes, not hours
Not so good
- No published wattage
- Another appliance to find space for
- Gravity drain means it needs to sit near a drain or a bucket
Skip this if your washer already has a high-speed spin. The gain is much smaller if your machine spins at 1400 RPM or above.

Pick 2 · The fastest published spin
The Laundry Alternative Ninja Spin Dryer, 3200 RPM
3200 rpm in the same size cabinet as the Nina, with a published three minutes to 90% dry - the quickest water-removal step this site can point at that is actually in stock.
What the manufacturer publishes
- Open
- 14"D x 14"W x 24"H

- Load capacity
- not published
- Material
- Triple-welded stainless steel drum

3200 rpm against the Nina's 1800, in a cabinet the listing gives the same 24 inch height and a weight of 19.7 lb. Nearly double the spin speed, for a modest premium over its slower sibling.
The Laundry Alternative publishes a result rather than an adjective: 90% dry in three minutes, with "not 100%, they come out slightly damp" written into the same bullet. That is their figure, under conditions they do not state, and we have not tested it.
It publishes no load capacity at all. The Nina publishes 17 lb; this listing publishes none, which is the one specification a buyer moving up from the Nina most wants and cannot have.
No wattage is published, so no running cost appears for it - the same gap the entire spin-dryer category has.
Good
- 3200 rpm, the fastest published spin on this site
- Three-year comprehensive warranty
- Triple-welded stainless steel drum
- 19.7 lb and 110V, so it needs no installation and one person can move it
Not so good
- No published load capacity, unlike the Nina
- No published wattage, so no running cost can be computed
- The listing states two different footprints - 14 x 14 x 24 inches in its specification block, 13 x 13 x 24 inches in its own bullet
- Ships with zip ties and a metal motor lock that have to be removed before it will run
Skip this if you mostly dry knitwear and structured garments. The Nina's softer 1800 rpm spin is what those fabrics want, and it costs less.

Pick 3 · A published drying claim
The Laundry Alternative Nina Soft Spin Dryer
1800 RPM and a 17 lb load, with the only published outcome claim in this category: 90% dry in five minutes.
What the manufacturer publishes
- Open
- 14"D x 14"W x 24"H
- Folded
- Not applicable
- Drying line
- Not applicable
- Load capacity
- 17 lb
- Material
- Ventless centrifugal spin dryer
Figures from Manufacturer listing on Amazon, retrieved 2026-09-02.
The manufacturer publishes an actual result - 90% dry in five minutes - rather than an adjective. We are quoting their claim, not a measurement of ours.
1800 RPM against the Panda's 3200. Lower speed, gentler on fabric, and it carries a three-year warranty.
Its own listing is careful to say this is not a clothes dryer: it does not use heat and it does not finish the job. It shortens the rack time; it does not replace the rack.
Good
- Publishes a concrete performance claim
- 3-year manufacturer warranty
- Gentler 1800 RPM spin
- Ventless, so it needs no installation
Not so good
- 17 lb, less than the Panda
- No published wattage
- Does not finish drying - a rack is still required
Skip this if you expected a dryer. This is a water-removal step before the rack, and the listing says so plainly.

Common questions
How much laundry does the Panda 3200 hold?
Panda publishes a 22 lb capacity, which is the largest of any spin dryer on this site - the Nina publishes 17 lb and the Ninja publishes no load weight at all. In a published 13.5-inch square footprint that works out at 17.4 lb per square foot of counter, against 12.5 for the Nina.
How long does the Panda 3200 take to spin a load?
Panda does not publish a spin time. For reference, The Laundry Alternative publishes 3 minutes to 90% dry for its Ninja at the same 3,200 rpm and 5 minutes for the 1,800 rpm Nina - but those are competitors' figures for competitors' machines, and we will not attach them to the Panda as though Panda had stated them.
Does the Panda spin dryer need plumbing or a vent?
No. It drains by gravity through an outlet you put a bucket under, needs no sink or drain connection, is ventless, and runs from a standard 110V outlet. That is what makes it usable in a rented apartment, an RV or a dorm room.
What warranty does the Panda 3200 come with?
One year, published as a manufacturer warranty. Both Laundry Alternative machines - the Nina and the Ninja - publish three years. The Panda is also the most expensive of the three, so the shorter term is a genuine trade rather than a budget compromise.
Is a spin dryer the same as a tumble dryer?
No. A spin dryer uses no heat at all - it is a centrifuge that throws water out of the fabric, and clothes come out damp rather than dry. A tumble dryer heats and tumbles until the clothes are dry. The two are compared in full on spin dryer vs tumble dryer.
Will a spin dryer damage clothes?
At 3,200 rpm the Panda spins harder than most washing machines, which is the point for towels, jeans and bedding and is the wrong thing for knitwear and structured garments. For those, the 1,800 rpm Nina is the machine the manufacturer positions as soft, and it is a pick on this page.
