This is the least known product in indoor laundry and arguably the most useful. It is standard equipment in a lot of the world and almost unheard of in the US, which is why it is worth explaining rather than just ranking.

What a spin dryer is

A centrifuge. You transfer a spun load from the washer into a small drum, run it for a few minutes at 1800 to 3200 RPM, and considerably more water comes out. There is no heat involved at all - one manufacturer's listing is explicit that it is not a clothes dryer and does not get clothes fully dry.

Why it works so well

This is why it beats a heated rack for time-per-dollar. A heated rack spends money making evaporation faster; a spin dryer removes the water that would otherwise have to evaporate at all.

Every figure is the manufacturer’s own, read from its listing on 2026-09-02. Where a cell says not published, that specification is genuinely absent - we do not estimate one. How we work.

Spin speed is the specification

3200 RPM against 1800 RPM is a meaningful difference in water removed. The trade is gentleness - a lower speed is easier on fabric, which is why one of these is sold as a soft spin dryer and carries a three-year warranty.

What it will not do

  • It will not finish drying anything. The load goes on a rack afterward, every time.
  • It is another appliance. About the size of a kitchen trash can, and it needs somewhere to live.
  • It needs a drain. These gravity-drain, so it sits near a sink, a tub or a bucket.
  • It publishes no wattage on either listing here, so we do not publish a running cost. What we can say is that it runs for minutes rather than hours.

Who it is actually for

  1. Anyone whose washer has a low spin speed. If your machine spins at 800 RPM, a 3200 RPM spin dryer is a transformation. At 1400 RPM the gain is much smaller.
  2. Anyone drying in a small apartment in winter, because water removed mechanically never enters your room air at all.
  3. Anyone doing heavy items. Towels and denim are where the retained water is greatest and the gain is biggest.
  4. Anyone hand-washing. A hand-washed and wrung garment holds far more water than a machine-spun one, and this closes that gap entirely.

A washing machine's spin cycle leaves clothes holding a lot of water. A dedicated spin dryer at 3200 RPM removes much more of it mechanically, and mechanical water removal is far cheaper than evaporating the same water with heat.

The practical effect is on the clock, not the bill: laundry that goes onto the rack already damp rather than wet finishes hours earlier.

22 lb capacity and a stainless drum, in a footprint about the size of a kitchen trash can.

The listing does not publish a wattage, so we do not publish a running cost for it. What we can say is that the spin runs for minutes, not hours.

Good

  • 3200 RPM - the highest spin speed here
  • 22 lb capacity
  • Stainless drum
  • Runs for minutes, not hours

Not so good

  • No published wattage
  • Another appliance to find space for
  • Gravity drain means it needs to sit near a drain or a bucket

Skip this if your washer already has a high-speed spin. The gain is much smaller if your machine spins at 1400 RPM or above.

Figures from Manufacturer listing on Amazon, retrieved 2026-09-02.

The manufacturer publishes an actual result - 90% dry in five minutes - rather than an adjective. We are quoting their claim, not a measurement of ours.

1800 RPM against the Panda's 3200. Lower speed, gentler on fabric, and it carries a three-year warranty.

Its own listing is careful to say this is not a clothes dryer: it does not use heat and it does not finish the job. It shortens the rack time; it does not replace the rack.

Good

  • Publishes a concrete performance claim
  • 3-year manufacturer warranty
  • Gentler 1800 RPM spin
  • Ventless, so it needs no installation

Not so good

  • 17 lb, less than the Panda
  • No published wattage
  • Does not finish drying - a rack is still required

Skip this if you expected a dryer. This is a water-removal step before the rack, and the listing says so plainly.

Common questions

What does a spin dryer do?

It spins a load at 1800 to 3200 RPM to throw out water mechanically, in about five minutes and with no heat. The load still needs a rack afterward, but it starts far drier.

Is a spin dryer worth it?

If your washing machine has a low spin speed, or you dry a lot of towels and denim, or you dry indoors in winter, yes - it is the biggest step change in drying time available. If your washer already spins at 1400 RPM or above, less so.

Does a spin dryer replace a tumble dryer?

No, and the manufacturers say so plainly. It removes water; it does not finish drying. One publishes 90 percent dry in five minutes, which still leaves a rack step.

How much electricity does a spin dryer use?

Neither listing here publishes a wattage, so we do not state a figure. It runs for minutes rather than hours, so the total energy is small regardless.
